Lay Study Program

The Lay Study Program has two purposes. One is for Personal Growth and enrichment and the other is to be certified as a Lay Minister.

Curriculum

Each course is 20 hours class time and is structured for 10 two-hour sessions. In some cases this is arranged differently.  All persons wishing to receive certification are required to take the following courses thar constitute the Core Curriculum:

Baptist Heritage

Church History

Christian Ethics

Ministry to Individuals:
    Listening, Caring, Responding

New Testament

Old Testament

Spiritual Development

Theology

Specialized Cources

    Church Administration
    Church Education
    Preaching
    Understanding other Religious Traditions
    Worship
    Ministry Through the Small Church

Fees:
The registration fee for each course is $60.00. For family members living in the same house the fee is $60.00 for the first person and $30.00 for each subsequent person. The cost of the textbooks for each course is in addition to the registration fee.  Classes may be audited for $30.

Marie Schilling is a retired educator who has taught the Lay Study Program and has been a teacher/leader for a Bible Study in her Clifton Park Center Baptist Church for over thirty years. She serves as the Personal and Spiritual Coordinator for both the American Baptist Women of CABA and New York State and has led Conferences in Rye, NY and at Camp of the Woods, Speculator, NY for AB Women. A certified and licensed lay minister, Marie lives in Clifton Park with her husband, Herb.
