Field Ministers and their team are to serve the Church which is viewed as the fundamental mission unit of the Church.
 
 


Basic Principles of Field Ministry

The Local Church is the fundamental unit of Mission.





the church is to worship and serve God.

the church is to minister in Jesus' name to all types of persons in all kinds of situations

the church is the primary resource for developing believers in Jesus Christ.

the church is the primary means through which growth of the kingdom of God occur.

The purpose of the American Baptist Churches of New York State is to resource the fundamental unit of Mission.

Responsibilities
  1.  Pastor to Pastors
        a. crisis intervention
        b. career assessment/placement
        c. continuing education
        d. motivation
        e. spouse & family matters
        f. ordination/recognition issues
        g. retired PCL & family

  2. Pastoral Placement
       a. search committee support
       b. united/federated/union church  partnerships
       c. mal/interim process
       d. reference checks
       e. installation
       f. code of ethics/self disclosue statement

  3. Congregations
a. acquaintance
      b. assist in vision discovery/sffirmation
      c. assist in decision making
      d. resource for renewal
      e. resource for planning
 

  4. Associations
       a. resource to association leadership
       b. share trends/issues

  5. ABC/NYS Representative
      a. policy implementation
        b. shares regional story
        c. emphasizes ABC identity and mission

  6. ABC/NYS Staff
      a. works collaboratively
        b. shares in mutually agreed upon responsibilities
        c. takes assignment

  7. Other
        a. first line of approach from pastor/church
        b. connection to regional and national resources





In 1998 the American Baptist Churches of New York State appointed a Field Ministry Enhancement Team to work with each Field Minister. In the Eastern Area those people are  Steve Davie, Marie Schilling,  Rev. Don Shuler, and Rev. James Meek.
