American
Baptist Women's Ministries of New York State
ABWM
in the Local Church
In most American Baptist Churches there is an active
Women's Ministry. It may be a single unit or there may be many units
called circles with each one specializing in one aspect of their
Ministry. These are often a forum to learn about mission activity both
foreign and home mission. They also support the missionary efforts with
White Cross (providing supplies for various mission stations) or local
ministries in their community. Check with your local American Baptist
Church for specifics about the ministries in your community. Once a
year there is a special Women's Sunday celebrated in most Churches.
Suggestions for this service are available from the National office.
Association Activities
There is an Association Organization of the American
Baptist Women that distributes information and program materials to the
local
Church groups and sponsor's opportunities for the women of the
Association to fellowship together and work on projects of common
interest. Last spring the Women of the Adirondack Association held
their meeting in Minerva and David and Barbara Higgs shared their
experiences on a work mission to the Dominican Republic. The Adirondack
and Capital Area Association women gather in the fall at Camp-of-the
Woods for a retreat in late September. We will add information about
that event when the details are available.

State Women's Activities
Representatives from the
Associations meet at a State level to learn from and provide
information to the National offices about trends among women's
ministries. There is a Statewide Convention each year.

National Women's Activity
At the National Level there is a
staff of folks who create programing materials on mission themes and
suggestions for the local woman's group. This is done in
consultation with the State leaders. They maintain a WEB page where one
can get information about the materials and even order them. ABWM Page
There
is an organized girls program,
and information about it is
available by clicking on the logo.
There is an Annual Women's
Conference at the National level held at our National Conference Center
at Green lake Wisconsin. Information about this is available on
